The threads that hold the little screw on the end have snapped of most of the way round, and the end wont stay on very well any more. This means I must get a new one, I was wondering if there are any particularly fine prickers out there? The one I have does the job fine tbh, tis the onetouch ultrasoft with it’s useful pain setting (until it spins to full power on it’s own, and I’m left with a tear in my eye!), but thought it would be a shame to miss an opportunity to get something a bit shiny and make me happy about diabetes again!

Personally, I love my One Touch Mini pricker, and refuse to use any other.
I think, really though, that there is very little difference between most, I just like it because it’s small and the 9 pain setting. -
I’ve never encountered a shiny Bloody (’cause they draw blood) Mary (’cause they make holes, which make them holy)…the drab, plasticky lot I’ve had at my fingertips, include 2 Bayers and 2 Roche Accu-Cheks: the first anonymous Bayer had no depth settings like the 2 Accu-Cheks do have; the second one (Ascencia Microlet) offers great comical relief, as it reminds one of a female leg-hair remover. My functional favourite thus far is the Accu-Chek Multiclix, with its revolver-like cylinder that houses 6 lancets, and 10 “pain” settings, ranging from toothless to full-blooded carnivorous fang.

@Cecile Oooh, that multi-clix sounds like the kind of shiny upgrade that would be cool. However, I realised that I actually have a 3 year warranty that is still in date for my meter, so just called up and the very helpful lady on the other end has got some control solution, batteries and a replacement pricker in the post in less than five minutes!
Didn’t even get stuck on hold! Still a little in shock as to how painless that was! Customer service win, for once… -
Accu-chek Multiclix is by far and away the best finger pricker I’ve ever used, in my 23 years. I’m a violinist with hardworking fingers, and they don’t need to be filled with painful holes. This pricker is often pain free, usually virtually painless. A wee piece of magic. Also, that once a year lancet change that Alison has mentioned (Christmas Day isn’t it?) is now much easier, and on a reckless whim of self-love, can be done at any time you happen to be testing.

Does sound good, now I wonder if I can blag one on the NHS?! Or at least change the lancets to those? I don’t know how any of that kinda stuff works really… The free new one I got is ok though. Smaller and sensibly not got a screw on thread any more (as that was what broke last time).
It is a LOT more powerful though. I used to dial up a little over half way on the power selection, so stuck it on the half way mark on the new one – it hurt a LOT. At least I know I’ll always be able to test regardless of callouses now!

Oooh, cool, what about the lancets? Would I be able to get my prescription changed (if needs be) to them, then?
