Brett Ryan Stewart is a young, up and coming American musician whose stuff is quite pleasant – you can listen on his MySpace page here – http://www.myspace.com/brettstewart. He’s also Type One diabetic and, for some bizarre reason, agreed to be asked questions about being a diabetic rock star by the Shoot Up mob.
I know you’ve always wanted to interrogate diabetic musicians; so ask your questions in the thread below and I’ll submit the best ones to him and publish the results.
1) Does diabetes effect your rock and roll lifestyle? For example, does it prevent you from chucking televisions out of hotel windows and having drink-fuelled orgies with hot chicks, etc?
2) Have you ever actually thrown a television out of a hotel window? If not, why not?
Never mind the Diabetes, lets just talk about drink-fuelled orgies with hot chicks… I think a video interview with the ladies would be in order also. ???
This is a question I might also ask of Shoot Up’s resident violinist, @caroline: Seeing that the hand you use to squeeze and stroke strings with tends to get callused, do you have to set your finger pricker on a deeper depth to get to blood, or don’t you milk that hand at all?
We have a long running thread on the forums made up of diabetes-related limericks. We’ve found that it’s very difficult to rhyme anything with pancreas or insulin. Is this why you have so few songs about diabetes?
Would it be utterly marvellous to have a diabetic super-band made up of type ones? They’ve done it for professional cycling – http://www.teamtype1.org/ – so why not music?
Ooooh, a diabetic supergroup… While it may never be ‘super’, I have a diabetic friend who plays (or, at least, played) bass. I play guitar. All I need now is vocals and drums and I’m there!
I know we’ve got other talented & musical readers and I’ll do vocals (I’ve got a bloody awful voice, but no fear of singing in public at the drop of a hat!) So there’s nothing stopping us!
