InactiveWell, I’m about to go out on a hot date (well, she’s hot, I’m hoping I am..
) and am trying to decide if I take the glucose meter as well as the pen or not. Wondered if any of you have tips (for other dates, doubt you’ll be in time for this one now!), stories, etc…So far I have had no good stories – all the girls have just gone ‘oh, ok, how long have you had it, etc’ which is pretty cool.

StephenParticipantLeave the meter, take the pen in my book

I’ve got to be honest, I’ve never hid what I have – but I normally saved that for the second or third date. Quick trip to the gents to shoot up (damn that sounds so Trainspotting doesn’t it?) and all is good.
No real stories, but when I first went out with my wife I used the above technique. On about the third date I told her, to which she replied “Oh, so is my dad.”

InactiveI thought all youngsters would be super cool I mean your just like 007 with your gadgets. You could get a man bag? Sorry couldn’t resist that one. Credit Card shaped meters or bring back the old pen shaped meter would be a bonus here neat tidy and does the job perfectly. Good luck Rohan.

TimKeymasterI was diagnosed three months after I started going out with @katie and we’re now wedded – so I’ve never actually been out on a date as a diabetic.
I would take all your kit and check as normal – I might spend a quick five minutes telling her about diabetes and how it doesn’t actually make all that much difference to anything and then forget about it for the rest of the evening.
Anyway, that aside – good luck! Knock her dead! (Metaphorically, not literally).

InactiveThanks guys n gels

It was made easy for me last night – was an internet date, and I have put that I am pancreatically challenged on my profile, so she knew what to expect… As it was wet I took a jacket with big pockets and went the whole hog with the meter, and all was well. Apparently she wanted to be a doctor, so forced herself to man-up about icky things a few years back ,so wasn’t bothered by me doing it at the table. Also agreed with me that it is worse to sneak of to the toilets to do it, as that makes it look and feel like something bad…
Happily she wants to see me again, so I must have done something right
