We try to make a feature on your soaraway Shoot Up of being positive about diabetes. it may be difficult sometimes but – surely – you must be able to think of some good points about having a failed pancreas too?

I wouldn’t have my Blue Peter badge if it wasn’t for diabetes. What more could you want?

It made a very good excuse for ending my very boring appraisal in work – “Sorry, it’s my lunch time. We’ll have to stop here.”

@annette – good one – I never take incoming phone calls at lunchtime. “Insulin and not eating don’t work” I say.

@alison – I’d forgotten you had a Blue Peter badge. I’m extremely jealous. Did you use it a lot to get reduced entry into attractions around the country?

Just discovered another benefit – when someone I don’t want to talk to comes near, taking my pump out to press buttons on works even better than taking my insulin pens out used to be for making them change their minds about how much they wanted to talk to me…:-)

Having an excuse for eating chocolate even when you don’t need to…
I always thought that comedy sketch on Smack the Pony was quite funny – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smack_the_pony covers it briefly…
Jumping queues in restaurants (The food can’t wait, i’m hypo! I need food NOW)

My Dad used to use me as an excuse to get faster service in restaurants :-) Even got money off our bill once for me going hypo (which I was doing) because they were too slow. Highly embarrasing, but effective.

We got upgraded to a roof top apartment in an Italian Hotel by my future step-mother because of my diabetes????. Now she has it too! Holiday good though.

@alison Could you still use your Blue Peter badge? Do they expire? :)
