InactiveHi!
I thought I should say hi as opposed to just lurking secretly in the corner.
My name is Aoife, I am 32 and have been T1 since 2004 on MDI of Novorapid and Levemir (split dose) my last HbA1c was 7.2/55 so still much room for improvement! I found the site after googling pumps and have just spent the last few rainy, windy and cold (thanks british summer!) days laughing my way through the blog, it’s so nice to find people with a sense of humour!
Anyway enough waffle from me thanks for the giggles

TimKeymasterHi Aoife – welcome to the misery, despond and despair that is Shoot Up!

I like to think that we demonstrate we’re crushed by diabetes and that we want to drag the rest of you down with us. That was certainly the aim when we set up Shoot Up.

InactiveThanks! Misery is my middle name so I’m sure I’ll feel right at home
Just struggling with a BG of 17.1 at the moment having atrociously miscalculated a kilo of “shell on” mussels from a divine Belgium eatery (def the mussels and NOT the beer that’s the problem!), still can’t find out the carb value
they were worth it though -

TimKeymasterI would have thought mussels would be all protein and zeroish carbs. If it was a Belgian eatery there *surely* would have been a metric tonne of chips though.

InactiveYep, that’s what I assumed too, but, like a (wo)man in orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected.
Chips were involved but properly catered for.
After extensive googling it seems mussels are anywhere between 6-10g/85g so whilst not the highest thing in the world they are certainly not all protein as I figured
Oh well, live and learn! -

TimKeymasterWell, I too live and learn – I probably wouldn’t have bollused all that much for mussels. There’s a great mussel place in Edinburgh if you’re interested (which I suspect you’re not) called the Mussel Inn on Rose Street. Sadly @Katie is not all than keen on vast pots of mussels, so we don’t go there very often

DaveParticipantHi @Aoife. To be honest I struggle with most foods that aren’t simple potatoes or out of a pre-carb-counted box. I too would have let the fish go ‘free’. And I too wouldn’t have let the beer take any of the blame. Nup, nothing to do with it. Beers are carb free and don’t mess with anything. Honest!

InactiveHi @Aoife!
Welcome! Seeing as my birth country’s national dish is being discussed, I feel I should stand up for the Mussels from Brussels
They are often steamed in a white wine sauce, maybe another complication?Same as @Dave, I find it hard with anything that isn’t a single form of carbs. Paella is my most recent nemesis!
