Hi, I’m a T2 now using insulin after 4 yrs on Byetta alone. Intolerant of most oral meds. Really struggling to get my insulin levels right. (Not helped by airport x-raying having halved the strength of my insulin – took me ages to realise!). Does anyone have experience of combining Byetta and Levemir? I would like to be doing that, and have consultant’s permission, but not getting much helpful advice from them re what to take when for best effects… Also keen to make new friends with others who are pancreatically challenged! Regards, Sue
Hi Sue, welcome to ShootUp, I hope things start to settle down for you soon. I have absolutely no knowledge of Byetta I’m afraid so can’t help you there. We can definitely help on the making friends with other pancreatically challenged types front though.
I’ve never heard that before about insulin and xrays. Mine is regularly nuked at airports and I’ve never had a problem with it. How did you identify it was definitely the xrays that caused the problem?
Welcome to Shoot Up Sue! I’m afraid I know nothing about Byetta either – but I bet someone here does…
I’m not sure how xrays would effect insulin either – if xrays effected proteins then you would get cooked every time you had an xray. Which I guess wouldn’t be ideal. Might your insulin problems be caused by an other factor – such as not keeping it in a fridge while you’re on your holibags?
I know as soon as I’ve said this that other readers will correct me saying “it’s well-established that xrays cause problems to insulin, I can’t believe you don’t know that…” But, hey, I’m used to that
I myself am a newbie to this site so hi from me all.
I do have some experience with byetta I was on it for a while but not had no experience with the insulin side of things so not alot of help am i LOL.
Anyways I look forward to getting to know everyone.
