A Korean World Diabetes Day, today

Today – 14th November – is World Diabetes Day. I like to think of it as a sort of wild party where diabetics the world around can celebrate their failed pancreases with booze, cake, wild parties and crazy dancing without any consequences.

Sadly, as we all know, today will be much like any other with the usual (relatively) careful monitoring of blood sugar and injections of lovely insulin but some buildings will be lit up in blue. Which is nice.

Here at your soaraway Shoot Up we usually we forget to mark World Diabetes Day, so think of this post as an anomaly. Normal diabetic business resumes.

Hurrah! I shall remove my jumper and turn off the heating and soon I too will be turning blue to celebrate World Diabetes Day.

Perhaps more by chance than by intention I am wearing a blue shirt to work today and I did pin my Blue Circle badge on my overcoat this morning. In other news, I also had a lovely chat with one of our readers – hello Sarah! – all about diabetes on the number 44 bus into work today.

I am ashamed by my lack of blueness on such an esteemed day (thanks for the tip off!) and will address it immediately. I’m thinking blue pants over my trousers Superman style. That should make the Cotswolds/world take note.

Call yourself a diabetic? You should hang your head in shame. Blue pants over trousers should just about make amends for your previous lack of commitment – please send photos 🙂

Whenever I hear the words ‘Blue Circle’, my first though is ‘cement’……
