35&36 weeks: monitoring, monitoring, monitoring

I’m now 8 months pregnant and I’m starting to feel it. Somewhat unfairly morning sickness has returned, which combined with tiredness and the general effort involved in moving my epic stature leads to a lot of harrumphing.

Because of the diabetes we’re being monitored twice a week to check all is well. HbA1c is 5.2% so there’s nothing to worry about there. They strap me to a fetal heart monitor and we listen to the baby’s heartbeat for 20 minutes while recording her movements. It’s actually quite enjoyable. Yesterday we were there for an hour and a half though waiting for a bout of baby hiccups to subside so they could get an accurate measure of her heartbeat. The baby is getting ever increasing bouts of hiccups as she practices breathing ready to enter the world. These are very cute for the first 5 minutes, less so after 45 minutes at 3am.

Insulin requirements seem to have a stabilised at about 2.5 times what I was on pre pregnancy. I’ve finally remembered to set up a second basal profile on my pump with my pre pregnancy rates so that I can switch to that after the birth.

And finally, I’ve faced up to the reality that I’ll be going into hospital soon so I’ve packed my bag ready to go. I say bag, but by the time I’d got all my diabetes junk plus snacks and ;
