C8 Medisensors announced today that they have gained CE Mark approval for their non invasive continuous glucose monitor. This opens the door for them to sell the device in the UK and Europe, although news yet on release dates.

Having read your post, I went to their website and read all their blurb then signed up to be kept informed about further news and also asking the obvious questions – when? how much? any chance of the NHS paying for it?
I have just received a (remarkably swift) response which I am sure they won’t mind me sharing the important bits:
” Our intention is to launch the product in the United Kingdom first, and we are expecting to have the product on sale this year in the UK. ”
“The C8 MediSensors monitor costs $4,000 and is enginered to last at least four years. That compares to invasive continuous glucose monitors which can average $3,000-$5,000 each year, depending on how many disposable sensors you use. No prescription is required. As a new device, the C8 MediSensors monitor is not currently covered by insurance.”
So at todays’ exchange rate of 1GBP=1.61259USD that would be £2,480 (or as more often seems to be the case with US tech, 1GBP=1USD, giving £4,000!)

I translate the American “the C8 MediSensors monitor is not currently covered by insurance” as meaning “the NHS haven’t heard of it yet so you’ve got no chance” in British English.
Oops! OK, I’ve just read the 03/09/2012 blog post from @alison and realised that my breaking news is just a bit out of date! Just shows I must come here more often to avoid looking so ignorant!
Or maybe more helpful bloggers would have updated the original post too so anyone reading it would know – oops!
