Diabetics should be grateful if they get a mate

By | 23 February, 2011

According to one US blogger, it seems that in India, diabetics can’t be choosers.ย ย A survey of 2000 diabetics aged 19 to 31 showed thatย nearly half of the type 1 married women were basically returned by their husbands as damaged goods. This has led to the obvious business opportunity of a diabetic dating agency.

I understand Alison’s husband is now pondering whether he was ripped off when he gave her parents 2 goats and a llama for her hand in marriage. It appears the broken pancreas should have got him a discount.

This dog hopes ShootUp readers will now lower their expectations when it comes to selecting partners and understand that they should be grateful to anyone who’s willing to take on them and their dodgy endocrine system.

@tim I see that he has used the term “pancreatically challenged”
Surely we have that trademarked??? No? ๐Ÿ™‚

@mikeinspain – hmm, tragically “pancreatically challengedโ€ isn’t a registered mark and we don’t use it in the course of trade, so we’re unlikely to have gained unregistered, common law rights in the term. Also it’s too short to attract any rights in terms of copyright.

    You did ask! ๐Ÿ˜‰

We all know where the term ‘pancreatically challenged’ originated, don’t we @Tim, so when it appears in the Oxford English Dictionary we’ll know who deserves the accolades. ๐Ÿ™‚

I may be wrong, but I think @Alison‘s other half was done for a llama! ๐Ÿ˜›

I’m the one in our partnership with a broken pancreas. But my wife is ginger – does this count for some sort of discount as well? ๐Ÿ˜€

@don172 – certainly not! Shoot Up (well, one half of it at least) is very pro ginger – being as it’s married to one and all its previous long-term girlfriends were ginger…! ๐Ÿ˜€

@teloz – I have actually seen uses of pancreatically challenged that pre-date Shoot Up; but I like to think that we popularised the term!

@don172 Like a tradeoff so to speak.. ใ€ใƒ„ใ€‘Will keep quiet as I would probably get myself into to trouble now..

    @tim I wonder if anyone has registered pancreaticallychallenged.com ????ใ€ใƒ„ใ€‘

@mikeinspain – hmm, pancreaticallychallenged.com, eh? I wonder if I can UDRP you? However, the .co.uk is in safe hands now. If we’re talking about cool domain names, try typing http://dia.betes.co.uk into your browser ๐Ÿ™‚

@tim You talking that funny language again.. WTF is UDRP? Like the dia.betes.co.uk one.. Tried to do something similar with .es domains. Eg; diabet.es but the bloke would not let me have it. ใ€ใƒ„ใ€‘

It’s a polite way of saying start a legal battle to get a domain name back if you think you have more rights to it than they do isn’t it?

    Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy or something ….

UDRP = Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, the administrative procedure used to dispute potentially infringing domain names in the main generic (and some country code) spaces. ๐Ÿ˜€

Ah, but under the UDRP rights don’t have to pre-date the registration of the disputed domain name – see, for example, Digital Vision, Ltd. v. Advanced Chemill Systems D2001-0827 or AB Svenska Spel v. Andrey Zacharov D2003-0527; so I could still potentially get you on the rights round; but I would probably be screwed in terms of the legitimate interest and bad faith rounds through.

Are we going a touch off topic here? ๐Ÿ˜€

Huh, that explains it! I’ll remove ‘I am a type I diabetic’ from my OKC profile, then.
