A grand opening

A Roman forum, yesterday

Forget cures for hideous diseases or global peace, the one thing this world needs is yet another Internet forum about diabetes. So to try and sate this lust (do I mean lust?) for diabetes-related discussion I’m slightly proud to announce the formal opening of the Shoot Up discussion forum:

http://forum.shootuporputup.co.uk

Being an avid Intermaweb user I’ve looked at a lot of forums over the years and I hate a lot of things about them. For one I hate smilies, colourful signatures and flashing avatars that distract you away from the important business of whimsical chat. So these have all been banned from your soaraway Shoot Up’s forums – so it’s Scandinavian-style minimalism and good clean fun all the way.

I also hate trolls, spammers and other irritating people; so Alison and I are armed with a whole array of anti-spam and moderation tools to keep them at bay and make it a nice place to hang out and “shoot the breeze” – as I believe our American cousins refer to chatting.

There’s also technical jiggery-pokery running in the background so that once you’re logged in at the forum, you’re also logged in to post comments on the blog here. I’ve no idea how this works, but it’s rather handy.

So anyway what are you waiting for? Head over there and come on in – the water’s lovely!

How exciting! Scandinavian-style minimalism? That makes our forums sound like the Ikea of the forum world!

Instead of calling it a forum, I should have called it the “björkås” or the “månsken” and given everyone a small allen key to assemble it before they were allowed to use it…

@Tim I guess it’s time to load up that picture! I really like this forum and look forward to the great discussions about insulin, meters, and Scotch… 😀

@CALpumper Thanks CAL – much appreciated. I wouldn’t want the world to miss out on the very important thread about malt whisky that’s going at the minute. 😉
