  • What an amazing charity. I’m sure all diabetics from the developed world have minor frustrations when their diabetes disrupts their daily life, but this reminds me how privileged I am that my condition is not a […]

  • Wow big congratulations to you both!

The year is 2012. This is the year that I use my iPhone to monitor my sleep, bike rides and even where the nearest earthquake is. Yet, I have never really got to grips with using it to monitor my diabetes. This is […]

  • Big like!

  • Me three! I’d be quite happy if fellow diabetics ran up to me for a high-five or winked!

I also give a knowing smile whenever I spot stray testing strips. Perhaps this could be a photo-competition – where is […]

  • I think Apple’s legal team may be getting a bit nervous about “indoctrinated into the worship of Apple” and “Trial by combat” being banded around in the same blog post.

Also, do the rules of shotgun apply […]

  • I’d love to do this! I have an Accu-Chek Aviva and regularly worship at the church of Apple!

I’ve used a couple of iPhone apps like Islet and Carbfinder but didn’t find them that compatible with an insulin […]

  • Hehe I like this. How about the “WTF Hypo” – post-Christmas dinner/a massive feast when you think to yourself “How can I possibly be in any way hungry”…oh wait, bolusing error!

  • Hi Rohan, Your comment reminded me of a pretty terrifying 10 minutes I had with my pump at a gig- I wouldn’t say it was a mosh pit, but pretty rowdy…someone caught their hand in the plasic tubing of my pump and ripped right through it (that’s quite an impressive thing to do as they’re […]

  • Well done you! The initial thought of having something inside you is always a bit daunting (I am terrified by intravenous drips!) but I’m guessing you couldn’t feel it once it was in? I’d never realised about men’s hair issues when it comes to infusion sites- shaving/waxing sounds like a good plan! I find that […]

  • Haha this is great- I definitely think they should include it in the newly diagnosed literature! However, it does sound like a prescription for gout. Who would have thought that pheasant and port would be better for you than most breakfast cereal?!

Ah thanks you guys- I’m glad I’m not the only one who as fallen foul of interpreting what the DVLA actually mean and feeling as though you’re required to bend the truth, even though you’re perfectly capable of driving. You would have thought that if your condition meant you couldn’t drive you wouldn’t A) be applying for a driving license or B)…[Read more]

    Hi Mike,
Totally agree- that’s pretty foolish to travel without enough supplies for at least your holiday- after getting stuck abroad for over a week, I can’t take enough supplies with me now! It was pretty pricey to have pump supplies shipped over and I don’t think our insurance covered it cos of the circumstances.
So, you can buy in a…[Read more]

    • Pretty much spot on!

I think depends on where and what for? Touristy/Coastal areas and Cities will be very busy, so sometimes it might be worth considering going to a private clinic just to beat the queues. 【ツ】

Armed with just a E111/EHIC all you get is emergency treatment which is what most people need during a break. But for the sake of 10…[Read more]

That’s a bit mean- she might have got stuck in the volcanic ash situation like I did earlier this year- after an additional week my emergency supplies were looking a bit low. Luckily we went to a private practice and the exceptionally well qualified doctor looked up diabetes on WIKIPEDIA! I would definitely recommend going straight to the…[Read more]

      Hi Faith

Sorry I was never my intention to come across as mean!

If something had happened to here beyond HER control such as the Ash situation then I would be one of the 1st people to help out/advise if I could. What got my goat so to speak was that she simply did not pack enough insulin to last the duration of her trip.

      It then seems…[Read more]

  • Sadly, it was definitely a guy- a stereotypical one at that! I think it’s unlikely he was a specific blood testing kit theif and probably thought it was a new mp3 player- as people often think about my insulin pump as they yank it out of my pocket to have a look! I found the […]

  • I had one of these stolen from my bag when I was out one evening- I wonder if some guy is still trying to work out what it is/regretting that he was unfortunate to steal the most bog standard meter in the UK! However, it does exactly what I need it to (and not much […]
