      @spikeymikie asks:
      Has anyone got any recommendations for diabetic apps for iPad / iPod that can be reviewed and printed out for consultant? Anything for pump user would be appreciated as gonna be using one in 48hrs

      I suppose it depends on what you want to do. I keep a copy of all my settings on a Google Docs file – so I can access them from anywhere. Aside from that I download the data from the pump directly using Medtronic’s software. Aside from that I don’t really use diabetic apps – which isn’t really answering your question ;-)

      Most consultants I’ve met seem to hate/ignore all the flashy data analysis stuff & just want to look at a good old fashioned diary.

      For simple diary stuff I recommend either ‘DAFNE Online’ or ‘Diabetes Diary’.
      Both free and both allow you to download to CSV.
      The DAFNE one does it automatically and uploads to it’s website but limits entries to 15 per day.
      The Diary needs you to manually export.

      The best way I’ve found to get the professionals to like your data is to display it in a way they are used to from traditional paper layouts although that can be a bit fiddly if you’re not too comfortable with Excel.

      Hope that’s useful.

      Thanks everyone, I deffinately know what you mean Paul they would look at a fancy apps or spreadsheet with fancy graphical representation in disgust where the likes of a specialist nurse would appreciate it. I already have a few apps but thought it would to good to compare what others are using as well. I have to agree that when you write down your results you have a better understanding of the past 24hrs where sometimes using software the “overall picture” is sometimes missed as you are mainly concentrating on the last result.

      Read this before you get any apps or whatever:

      I’m going back to pen and paper.

      That’s not to do with apps to record anything, its to do with the pump/CGM – remote/handset/monitor communication link. Recording your results on an app (those currently available) has no link to your pump/cgm, and so can have no effect on you.

      I must admit I have tried my fair share of apps on my iPad and included iPhone apps as well. To be honest I’m impressed with any of them.

      The design/graphics leave a lot to be desired. One good app for the iPhone is Insulin Calculator. Handy for those of us who do no pump! http://www.fridayforward.com/ – they also make a couple of other apps.

      Here is a screenshot from the insulin app – http://minus.com/mdLcQl4 please excuse the 1st image of me boys.

      Hopefully someone out there will get a great app out there for us PWD’s that incorporates all platforms, but obvisouly it needs to be on the iPad firs! ;-)
