Lurkers welcome!

This image came up when I searched Wiki Commons for "lurking". I've no idea why but, hell, it'll do for pictorial filler.

Like the ruling party in some sort of Orwellian dystopian future, here at your soaraway Shoot Up we take a grim satisfaction in watching everything you do on the site.

Well, perhaps not quite, but we have noticed that the number people who read our posts and forums hugely exceed the number of people who comment. While we have a flourishing site and love and cherish our regulars (by “love” we mean “put up with” and by “cherish” we mean “tolerate”) it does seem there are a lot of lurkers out there.

Now, you’re more than welcome to lurk in the shadows if you want. However, we strongly suspect you have interesting experiences, useful input and other good stuff to contribute. So if you’ve teetered on the edge of setting up an account and commenting on an article or starting a thread in the forums but haven’t done so far – now’s your chance! You can create an account or even sign in using Facebook if you want – there are instructions here: http://www.shootuporputup.co.uk/resources/using-the-blog-and-forums/

Don’t worry if you think your diabetes control is rubbish or you haven’t the faintest clue what DAFNE is, or what the hell bolus / basal regimes are. We won’t shout at you or anything silly like that. I screw up my diabetes control all the time – my last BG reading was 12.9 – and I’m completely clueless with regard to most things about diabetes. People in glass houses, etc.

So if you fancy taking the plunge, then why not leave a comment below and say hello! I promise* to be nice.

* promise to be nice is not legally binding.

I have left a couple of comments, but I’m here to learn rather than contribute! Remember us non-diabetic readers… although I do know what DAFNE stands for. But I’m not telling.

Out of interest did you pick the chocolate cake avatar just to torment us diabetics 😉

Nope, it’s my usual avatar, for a few reasons: 1) I took the pic myself and am quite proud of it; 2) it was a very delicious chocolate cake; 3) I am a dietitian and it seemed appropriate. But if it torments you diabetics… no, I’m keeping it 🙂

So that’s four pluses in favour – 1) great picture; 2) tasty cake; c) relates to career; d) is cruel to diabetics. It wins on all points 😀

ermm I can never think of anything to say thats as remotely funny as what you guys write, which is why I lurk and chuckle to myself in the shadows, however the post made me feel like i needed to represent the ‘lurkers’ 😀 oh and I love reading your posts

Thanks Leanne; but we do try our best not to be funny – it’s a very serious subject after all. 🙂

Us gnomes are inveterate lurkers, and usually only appear when anything vaguely salacious is posted. This particular gnome is still suffering the psychological disturbance caused by wishing to swap places with a certain lady’s pump, which seems to be attached in some very interesting places 😆

Terry, what would we do without you? I think you should be appointed Shoot Up’s Official Lowerer-of-the-Tone! 🙂

it would be an honour, oh revered one! If appointed, I promise to do my best in the true tradition of Gnomish Tone Lowerers everywhere. 😆

Promise to be nice is not legally binding? I absolutely would not have thought of you tying me up until you mentioned it there, Tim.

So, your promise to be nice means you’re not going to ‘legally’ bind anyone up. Perhaps you could explain how I should interpret legal binding as opposed to illegal binding? Knots a easier to get out of? Nothing round the neck or other sensitive areas? I think you should be clear about this if you really want people to trust you…

You certainly know how to be cruel to a gnome, Lizz, when I read that I nearly splurged me coffee all over me keyboard! I thought you were such a wholesome, straight-laced young lady, and now I find you’re into BDSM. I’m all of a quiver! Any chance of any photographs? 😆
